Switch: shared banking for clubs, teams and friends

A banking app where groups pool money, issue Visa debit cards in seconds and collect payments with MoneyPools, for everyone from roommates to national organizations.

$0
to open unlimited accounts

Group money runs on spreadsheets, reimbursements and one person’s personal card. Switch needed shared accounts, cards and collections that felt as simple as a payments app but worked like a real bank.

  • Built shared accounts with roles and permissions, so treasurers, admins and members each see and do the right things.
  • Integrated instant virtual and physical Visa debit cards with spend limits, pause and close controls, plus Apple Pay and Google Wallet.
  • Shipped MoneyPools: shareable collection links that work on the web with no download required, with live tracking of who has paid.
  • Live on iOS, Android and web.
  • Adopted by 1,000+ organizations, including university clubs and national chapters.
  • Rated 4.7 on the App Store.
Build notes

How we built it

Roles and permissions

A Switch account belongs to a group, not a person, so the first design question was who may do what. Treasurers, admins and members get different rights over money and cards. Handing the account to next year’s leader is a one-tap change of roles.

Cards with a full lifecycle

Members get one-time or multi-use virtual cards in seconds, plus physical Visa debit cards. Each card carries a spend limit and can be paused or closed, and each state has to show the same way on every device. Cards can be added to Apple Pay and Google Wallet.

MoneyPools, a second product on the web

A MoneyPool is a link. The payer opens it in a browser, pays from any bank and never installs the app, while the organizer watches the list of who has paid update live. That makes MoneyPools a public web product next to the iOS and Android apps, with its own screens.

Org tools that sync outward

Treasurers keep their books in QuickBooks, so Switch syncs transactions into it, and groups can offer installment plans for larger dues. Checks, cash deposits, wires and fee-free ATM access come from the banking side: Thread Bank as the partner bank and the Allpoint ATM network.

The fintech app development cost guide shows how a scope like this is priced.

How many organizations use Switch?

More than 1,000 organizations have onboarded, from university clubs to national chapters, and the app is rated 4.7 on the App Store.
