How much does a custom AI voice agent cost?
There are two parts: the build and the running cost. The build starts with a 2-week Discovery Sprint ($5,000 fixed fee, credited to your build), then a fixed build price agreed after discovery (our published build range is $25k–$120k). Running costs are per minute of calls, billed by the speech, model, voice and phone vendors; Retell, for example, lists $0.07 to $0.31 per minute and Vapi a $0.05 per-minute platform fee plus provider costs.
How fast does an AI voice agent respond?
Response time depends on the speech, model, voice and phone vendors in the loop, so we measure it on your real call flows before launch instead of quoting a number up front. The benchmark is human conversation: people leave gaps of roughly 200 ms between turns, and ITU-T G.114 recommends keeping one-way delay on a voice call under 150 ms for most uses. We stream speech recognition, the model and the voice so the reply starts before the full answer is generated.
Which phone systems, CRMs and calendars does it work with?
Most systems that have an API. We connect telephony such as Twilio, CRMs such as Salesforce and HubSpot, Google Calendar, help desks such as Zendesk, EHRs such as Epic and Athena, and your own APIs. You can keep your existing number by forwarding calls to the agent or porting the number.
What happens when a caller needs a human?
The agent transfers the call to your team with a summary of who is calling and why, so the caller does not repeat themselves. You set the rules: transfer on request, on specific topics, when the agent is unsure, or for anything outside what it is allowed to handle. After hours it can take a message or book a callback instead.
Can an AI voice agent be HIPAA compliant?
Yes, if every vendor that handles call audio or transcripts signs a Business Associate Agreement and patient data stays in approved systems. HHS does not recognize private HIPAA certifications, so a certified badge proves little; what matters is the BAA chain across telephony, speech, model and hosting. We map that chain in discovery, before anything is built.
Can the agent speak languages other than English?
Yes. The agent can answer in Spanish and other widely spoken languages, as long as the speech and voice vendors you choose support them. We test every language you need on your real call scripts before launch, because recognition accuracy and voice quality vary by language and accent.
Should I build a custom voice agent or use Vapi or Retell?
Use a platform such as Vapi or Retell when your call flows are standard and per-minute pricing suits your volume. Build custom when the agent must act deep inside your systems, meet strict data rules, or handle volumes where platform fees outgrow a one-time build. A hybrid also works: a platform for the call layer with custom tools behind it. We recommend one in discovery, including when a platform alone is the better buy.
Who owns the agent, the recordings and the data?
You do. The code lives in your repository, the IP transfers to you on payment, and we set the agent up on your own phone, model and cloud accounts where possible, so recordings and transcripts stay under your control. Your team can run it without us.
